Eclipses 2019

Eclipses 2019

There are five eclipses in 2019. What does astrology have to say about them? Let's take a look. 2019's eclipses are:

  • 5-6 January: partial solar eclipse in Capricorn
  • 21 January: total lunar eclipse in Leo
  • 2 July: total solar eclipse in Cancer
  • 16 July: partial lunar eclipse in Capricorn
  • 25-26 December: annular solar eclipse in Capricorn

Having five or six eclipses in the same year (instead of the usual four) makes 2019 (and 2020!) a time of accelerated growth and change. Expect fast developments!

Eclipses open portals for major consciousness shifts. They shake things loose in one area of your life, helping you see things more clearly and make changes. Are your goals always just beyond your reach? Are you uncomfortable getting close with someone in case it doesn’t work - or worse, in case it does? Your thinking, beliefs and expectations influence your behaviour, which in turn brings about certain results. But, change your perception and you change everything! Eclipses have the power to do just that. And as you think and feel different, your behaviour also changes bringing different experiences in your life. During eclipse time, everything happens so quickly that your old habits don’t have time to kick in. After a couple of years, the area of your life touched by the eclipses is totally transformed so, if you think that you’re stuck with something forever, think again. Change is coming!

The eclipses are moving into Cancer and Capricorn in 2019 (tracking the lunar nodes in those star signs). But we do have one final eclipse in Leo in January, delivering the punchline of the past couple of years’ worth of changes and calling you to turn a big page in your life. Just in time for the powerful fresh start that comes this July and August! Whether you’re looking for love or for fulfilment in other areas in your life, the 2019 eclipses are here to ensure that you’re taking care of your core physical, emotional and spiritual needs. It’s time to let go of borrowed ideas of love relationships, wealth or career success. Time to reconnect with your roots and align with your true goals! With three out of five eclipses in Capricorn this year, there’s a major focus on practical changes you can make to free up space in your life for the love, abundance and happiness you seek.

With that in mind, let’s look at the 2019 eclipses and what they have in store!

Partial Solar Eclipse in Capricorn 5-6 January 2019

This is a New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse in Capricorn at 15:25 degrees on the 5th-6th of January 2019. This eclipse happens on the night of the 5th-6th at 20:28pm EST, New York on January 5th and 01:28 GMT, London on January 6th.

This is a solar eclipse, bringing a new beginning and touching an area of your life where changes are long overdue. This is the first eclipse in serious and hard-working Capricorn and so it’s only fitting that it’s conjunct Saturn, Capricorn’s ruler. It’s time to get serious about your problems and do something constructive to address them, whether this is your love life, money or making the most of your talents. This eclipse is inspired because the Sun and Moon are sextile to Neptune in Pisces, opening a portal through which you can pour your love and creativity into the world. Start building your dream! Begin working on what inspires you once the holidays are over, after January 6th. You have all the way till July 16th to see your hard work pay off!

This is fantastic eclipse for bringing your love life to the next level, as it is for creative self-expression and inspired business projects! It is visible in North-Eastern parts of Russia and China and affects you most if you have points or planets 10-20 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, Libra).

Total Lunar Eclipse ‘Blood Moon’ Supermoon in Leo 21 January 2019

This is a Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Leo at 0:52 degrees on the 20th-21st of January 2019. The eclipse happens in the early hours of the morning of the 21st at 00:17 EST, New York and 05:17 GMT, London.

This lunar eclipse is not only total (and so red or a ‘blood’ moon) but it is also a Big Supermoon at a critical degree in Leo, the most dramatic sign of all. Plus it is square shocker Uranus in Aries so, expect dramatic twists and sudden developments! This is the last eclipse in a 2-year series that began in February 2017 and, in many ways, it delivers the punchline - a dramatic ending, asking you to turn the page, take courage and move forward. Uranus doesn’t do ‘gradual’. It moves things along in quantum leaps and you can expect to experience such a leap in January - a breakthrough!  Eclipses always bring timetables forward and this one could be a game-changer. Take it easy on the day of the eclipse itself as you may be feeling more anxious than usual. There’s no going back now. Opportunity knocks!

You can catch the full blood-red moon both on the North and South American continent. Only a partial eclipse is visible in parts of Europe, Africa and the Near East. This eclipse affects you most if you have planets or points around 25-29 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, Libra) or 0-5 degrees of the fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio)

Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer 2 July 2019

This is a New Moon Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer at 10:38 degrees on the 2nd of July at 15:17 EDT, New York and 20:17 BST, London.

A total solar eclipse wipes the slate clean in some area of your life and creates space for something new. This one is here to teach you how to care for yourself and listen to your soul’s calling, whether it is around love and relationships, or through a more satisfying career that brings greater abundance. This is a friendly eclipse in many ways, as it is sextile Uranus and trine Neptune, bringing romance and inspiration your way. But it is also opposite Saturn so, it looks like you’ll be under some pressure as you make your fresh start, without much leeway for error. Still, this is a productive combination. If someone’s being difficult think of them as your auditor or sounding board. They are there to keep you in check as you experiment, and push you to make the most of the opportunities coming your way!

One secret to making the most of this eclipse is to look for a more objective point of view. Dialogue with someone if need be but never lose touch of what your own needs are - whether at work or in love. This eclipse is all about reconnecting with your innermost soul. Listen closely!

The full eclipse is only visible over the Chile and Argentina, but it’s no less powerful if you live elsewhere. This eclipse affects you the most if you have planets or points 5-15 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, Libra).

Partial Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn 16 July 2019

This is a Full Moon Partial Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn at 24:04 degrees on July 16th at 17:39 EDT, New York and 22:39 BST, London.

This eclipse is closely conjunct Pluto and it’s a transformative moment. Remember the fresh start you made in January? This is the first time you catch a glimpse of how far you’ve come and how your life is radically changing on a deep, fundamental level. Emotions always run high during a lunar eclipse and this one could bring repressed feelings to the surface. And just like Eve biting into the apple, once you know something you cannot unknown it. Feelings cut deep, revelations are powerful and there is no going back. Something is now crystal clear and it has the power to totally transform your perspective. Thankfully, this is only a partial eclipse - you only take one bite from the apple so you can hopefully digest it more easily... Also Neptune is also widely involved with the Sun, softening this energy a little with love, compassion and creative inspiration!

The eclipse is visible in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, South America and Antartica. It affects you most if you have planets or points 19-29 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, Libra).

Annular Solar Eclipse in Capricorn 25-26 December 2019

This is a New Moon Annular Solar Eclipse in Capricorn at 04:07 degrees, which happens at Christmas and the early hours of Boxing Day, at 00:14am EST, New York and 05:14 GMT, London on the 26th.

Annular eclipses create a ring of fire in the sky - a kind of 'loop' you have to pass through to enter greener pastures - and this eclipse brings a lucky fresh start! It is conjunct Jupiter (which enters Capricorn December 2nd) and trine Uranus in Taurus, activating the fortuitous December Jupiter-Uranus trine. This is a time of immense opportunity and a brand new beginning, especially when it comes to improving your life in tangible terms and reaching your goals. You’re finally ready to start a major life-restructure to include all the things you’ve always been asking for into your world. What do you wish for?  What is your aim? This eclipse is the portal through which you can begin to make you vision a reality! And, this time, you’re much wiser and more confident than you were at the start of the year. Expect a breakthrough and a whole new way of thinking to help you rebuild your life along more constructive lines!

This ‘ring of fire’ solar eclipse (when the moon blocks the sun but it is slightly smaller so you can see a fiery solar ring around it) is visible in India and Indonesia and, partly only, in the Near East. It affects you most if you have points or planets around 0-9 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, Libra).
